Restaurant Weeks at Ascots

Last week my co-workers and I decided to do a team dinner and catch part of Restaurant Weeks before it was over. I had never attended restaurant week, not because I didn’t want to, I just never had the time. After the event last year was so successful, this year they decided to extend it for a few weeks instead of just one. There was a huge number of restaurants that decided to participate this year that it was hard for us to choose which one we wanted to try. In the end we decided on Ascosts, one of the higher end restaurants. I had never been before so I was excited to give it a try. It was very classy and the ambience of the venue was soothing. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the menu but three courses for $49 was a deal that we couldn’t pass up! Originally I didn’t think to do a post about my experience but the food was so delicious that I couldn’t help but rave about it! Being that it was a higher end restaurant we expected for the food to be good but the portions to be small but that wasn’t the case at all. Not only was the food amazing but they were generous portions and the presentation was beautiful!
For my appetizer I choose the Chicken Porcini Mushroom Crepe:
Not only was it creamy but the sauce was full of flavour and the mushrooms were the perfect texture to top it off.

My main course (no surprise) the Grilled Sirloin Steak with an Irish Wiskey cream sauce and thyme flavoured parsnip fries:
I’m am not the biggest fan of sirlion, I prefer a tenderlion cut, but this one was grilled to perfection and the sauce was the perfect touch. Surprisingly I also really liked the parsnip fries even though I had never had parsnips before.

And for dessert the Mini Chocolate Tortes with rum raisin ice cream:
This of course was my favourite part (I have such a sweet tooth). Each torte was rich and had a warm centre that made my mouth water. Add the perfect sauce and pastry cookie with rum ice cream – perfection!

Overall I had an amazing experience and can’t wait to try the restaurant again. You can bet next year I will set aside plenty of time (& a budget) to try as many restaurants I can, and then start a new workout schedule to work it all off.
